Clive Jackson Founder & CEO |
Jackson is a veteran of the software industry and a serial entrepreneur. He has specialized in commercial software development for over 22 years and has consistently demonstrated a knack to envisage the next wave. He has been through two acquisitions and has lived to tell the tale.
Jackson has always been interested in virtual worlds and 3D but was continuously disappointed by the poor quality of the graphics and that the creation process was still in the domain of graphic designers and not developers like himself. Jackson realized that it was only a matter of time before virtual worlds and 3D environments became mainstream and in January 2002 he founded Pelican Crossing, Inc. which would specialize in developing easy to use software for the creation of virtual worlds and 3D environments.
Prior to founding Pelican Crossing, Jackson was Chief Technologist at Esker, a French-owned multi-national specializing in Document Management. Esker had acquired Jackson's previous company, VSI, who developed the award winning VSI-FAX and were the world's largest vendor of fax server software on UNIX. Leveraging Jackson's experience in developing enterprise class business critical systems, he was the architect for all product lines including the highly acclaimed VSI-FAX for Notes, a fax server for IBM's Lotus Domino servers.
Jackson founded Software Cafe, Inc. in 1993. The company developed enterprise wide systems management tools for managing IBM's Lotus Domino networks. The company rode the incredible Groupware wave through most of the nineties. Jackson exited in 1997 and joined VSI.
In 1989, Jackson was appointed Director of SQL Product Development at Nantucket Corp due to his pioneering work at Planet Software Ltd. Nantucket was the developer of the immensely popular Clipper, the dBase compiler. Jackson applied his strong SQL Database and integration knowledge to the development of the Clipper RDD's (Replaceable Database Drivers).
It was at Nantucket that Jackson first used Lotus Domino. Jackson was the visionary and driving force behind the company's use of Lotus Domino to improve communication between its 6 international locations. At that point in 1991, Nantucket was only the seventh company worldwide to have implemented Lotus Domino. Jackson left Nantucket when they were acquired by Computer Associates in 1992.
Before joining Nantucket, Jackson was co-founder and President of Planet Software Ltd., London. The company developed the much acclaimed Clipper add-on product called The Library. Jackson was the designer of this product which distinguished itself as the first product to enable the integration of Clipper with SQL Database servers, a major step forward for MIS departments.
Jackson has also held various managerial and developer positions throughout the 1980's.
He has calculated that virtually every company in the Fortune 1000 has at some point used a product that he either designed or worked on. He still programs, and uses C++, C#, JavaScript and PHP.
Born in and raised in England, he moved to the US in 1989.
